Question: I am sending goods to Egypt. Do I need to complete European or Arab Certificate of Origin?

Answer: Egypt is not part of the Arab League; therefore a European Certificate of Origin is required.

 

Question: I have heard of AEO, what does it mean?

Answer: AEO stands for Authorised Economic Operator. AEO is a certificated standard that businesses involved in the international trade supply chain may apply for. AEOs will be able to benefit from facilitations for customs controls or simplifications for customs rules or both, depending on the type of AEO certificate.

 

Question: I have been approached by an Iranian company? What are the current trading conditions?

What should I do with any blank space left in Box 6 of the Certificate of Origin Form after completion of appropriate details?

Any blank space must be ruled off.

 

I need a Certificate of Origin authenticated by the Chamber, but the goods are of foreign origin? Can I get one?

Yes, but the Chamber needs evidence of the foreign manufacture, either an invoice from the overseas manufacturer or a Certificate of Origin. Only in exceptional circumstances, where such evidence can not be supplied is a letter of indemnity from the UK exporter acceptable, with prior agreement of the Chamber.

 

I have a new customer, how do I find out if they are credit worthy?

My customer has asked me to use a different tariff number to the ones I know to be correct. Shall I use it?

No, the tariff determines duty rates or possible restrictions for export/import. Using wrong tariff codes could have serious implications. 

 

Do I charge VAT on Export?

No VAT is charged for Exports outside the European Community.
